In a November 4, 2024 release, the Small Business Administration said its Business Recovery Centers in Fairfield and New Haven counties would close the following day for Election Day and reopen November 6. The temporary pause applied to in-person service at two centers: Monroe Police Department in Monroe and Oxford Town Hall in Oxford. The SBA listed weekday and Saturday hours for both locations, and said the centers would remain open on that schedule until further notice. The centers served businesses and private nonprofits recovering from disaster. Staff could help applicants complete disaster-loan applications, accept documents for existing applications and provide status updates; walk-ins were accepted, with advance appointments also available. The agency said Fairfield, Litchfield and New Haven counties were eligible for both physical-damage and economic-injury disaster loans, while specified adjacent counties in Connecticut, Massachusetts and New York qualified for economic-injury loans. The release included an important funding constraint. After the SBA announced on October 15 that disaster-loan funds were fully expended, it said no new loans could be issued until Congress appropriated additional money, although applications would continue to be accepted and processed in preparation for future funding. The notice set November 19, 2024, as the physical-damage application deadline and June 20, 2025, for economic-injury applications. The closure notice therefore described a brief service interruption, not the end of the recovery centers’ assistance or the application process. [story-s1]
